Finding my way home

I have been idle for almost 40 years.  My darkroom skills are all but useless in the digital age.  Now I find myself needing to learn the subtle nuances of software.  I get a small bit of joy when I discuss my plans with professional photographers and get the expected response.  I usually hear "don't try it, too many fish in an overcrowded industry".  Well, to paraphrase my Graphic Arts teacher "no effort, no rewards, you have to set yourself apart".  I never had the problem being different before with film.  I was usually surprised when folks actually wanted to pay for my work.  Seeing how the puzzle pieces fit together has renewed my interest in some of the unusual aspects of photography.  I never liked portraits, or human subjects.  I had too many friends who dabbled in or did portraits professionally.  I like to think I learned from their mistakes.

In any case, tag along as I take some normal photos and familiarize myself with my tools and equipment.  I hope I can entertain and sharpen the long idle skills to earn a living.  Meanwhile, enjoy a west Texas sunset with minimal adjustment in post production.
